Students going to Singapore are eligible to apply for an ASEM-DUO scholarship in addition to University of Helsinki’s mobility grant, if the host university opens the application. Because ASEM-DUO is very competitive among European applicants, the University of Helsinki selects based on GPA which student is eligible to apply for an ASEM-DUO scholarship (one student per exchange destination). The selected student will receive extra help from International Exchange Services regarding this extra scholarship application.

Who can apply?

  • Students of all faculties
  • Bachelor’s and Master’s students
  • Students with English skills at least on level B2
  • Students with minimum GPA of 3,3 (National Institute of Education (NIE) at least 3,6)

Faculties not open to exchange students

  • All courses from the five autonomous institutions:
    • National Institute of Education (If student is not selected to NIE)
    • S Rajaratnam School of International Studies
    • Earth Observatory of Singapore
    • Singapore Centre on Environmental Life Sciences Engineering
    • Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine
  • School of Computer Science and Engineering (SCSE)
  • Nanyang Business School (NBS) only receives a limited number of exchange students
  • Entrepreneurship courses offered by the Nanyang Technopreneurship Center
  • Exchange Students are not allowed to attend Special Terms
  • Postgraduate courses offered by:
    • Nanyang Business School (NBS)
    • School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE)
    • School of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE)
    • Wee Kim Wee School of Communication & Information (WKWSCI)
  • Restricted courses

What can you study here?

  • Information on courses
  • Master's students are only permitted to read Postgraduate courses from the List of Available Postgraduate Courses if they do not qualify for the Direct Masters; completed seven semesters or more of continuous study at the University of Helsinki. The amount of Postgraduate courses are limited.
  • Class teacher studies are available at the National Institute of Education (NIE).
  • NIE may be able to offer a school practicum as part of a class teacher student's exchange, on a case-by-case basis.

How many credits do you need to complete?

Minimum of 12 exchange university credits / term. The target is 16 credits and the maximum amount per term is 20 credits.
1 Nanyang Technological University credit = 2 ECTS

  • On-campus housing is open for application but not guaranteed to all exchange students.
  • Students agree to pay the administrative and other fees determined by Nanyang prior to the exchange, should they be selected for the destination.

Faculties not open to exchange students

  • NUS Business School and NUS Law courses are not available.
  • Course restrictions
  • Architecture, Computer Science, Civil Engineering and Economics courses are extremely oversubscribed. Majoring students will be given priority to the courses.

  • Following schools / faculties are available: Arts & Social Science, Computing, Science, Design & Engineering.
  • Only undergraduate (Bachelor’s level) courses are available for exchange students. Undergraduate course codes are from 1XXX to 4XXX. Higher level undergraduate courses (e.g. course code starting from 4000 & above) have very limited supply and are usually NOT available to exchange students, consider taking courses with course code starting from 1000 to 3000. Master’s students can also participate in undergraduate courses if the courses can be recognised for their degree.

How many credits do you need to complete?

Minimum 3 modules (12 MCs) per term. The target is 4 modules (16 MCs) per term and the maximum is 5 modules (20 MCs) per term.
